Week 3 - Spring 2008

The third week of the semester starts with Setsubun on February 3rd. On this day which ushers in the lunar new year, disease bearing evil spirits are driven away by throwing beans at them. The EAS class will visit Kitano Shrine on Sunday to see a mamemaki (bean throwing) ceremony, as well as Kyogen and Japanese classical dance performances. Tuesday will be a History class fieldtrip to the ancient city of Nara, founded as the capital of Japan in the 8th century.
Other classes are also in full swing and learning plans are due by the beginning of this week.
