Fifteenth Week

The last East Asian Studies class will be held at the Kyoto International Manga Museum where students will participate in a Manga drawing workshop. Students should meet Yuki at the Japan Center at 11.55 a.m. and everyone will go to the museum together. There will be a tour of the museum from 1 p.m. followed by the workshop. Kamishibai, a traditional form of storytelling using pictures, will start at 3 p.m. as an optional addition. The museum, which opened in 2006, is Japan’s first museum devoted exclusively to manga. It offers a huge array of materials, totalling over 200,000 manga and manga-related works, with everything from 19th century Japanese magazines and books, to popular contemporary works from Japan and abroad.

We will have our last community meeting on Tuesday April 28th at 1:30 pm.

The teacher of the Shodo East Asian Studies class back in February recently sent these photos to us of the shodo class in action.
